Verity A is the first of eleven ‘Channel Class’ ocean racing yachts designed by Jack Laurent Giles between 1937 and 1939, but she was first sketched in 1936 as proposal number P-28: a 9 ton cutter.
The design was just two projects before Lt. Commander John Illingworth’s Maid of Malham but ‘The Maid’ was launched first and therefore most contemporary editorial of the time talked of ‘The Maid’ as being the earlier design. This is most probably because the actual Channel class yacht reviewed was CH hull number three – Triune of Troy (design number 0028) built by Moody’s in 1938 for Lord Russell of Liverpool
